Man Utd

Early in the second half, United’s Goalie Ben Foster performed an amazing save off the line avoiding an increase in the gap of the score. Going in to half time one goal down got United’s hope up as they equalized via Rooney’s penalty in the 59th minute. Gunners’ Goalie Almunia was booked for the foul against Rooney. 5 minutes later, the Reds were awarded a free-kick at the corner of the box. Ryan Giggs curled in a cross which was headed in by Abou Diaby into his own net, calling it his 3rd goal in 3 matches [Note: The Third one was in his OWN net!]. United successfully defended their lead till 5 minutes into injury time when Van Persie scored. But it was disallowed as Gallas had been caught offside. We saw some last minute excitement when Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger was Red-Carded [Sent Off the Pitch/Dugout] for dissent and the was mocked by the United fans as he stood in front of them

Wigan 0-5 United – What an amazing game!!

Aug 22nd 09

Wigan Vs Utd
The game starts off with superb build up play and an amazing chance to Fletcher beating Kirkland but stopped off the line by Bramble. United kept pressing hard and Wigan got some chances on the counter. United were frustrated throughout the first half and the best chance when Rooney was given a chance from the edge of the D, which Kirkland stopped with his legs. At half time most United fans would’ve been thinking its another result we’ll have to scrape and our season hasn’t really taken off.
The 2nd half till the 55th minute looked the same, except for the fact that Wigan came close to scoring from a Scharner header that got deflected for a goal kick till Rooney headed in a cross from Valencia into the top corner and that was when the rout started. As the old saying goes, you are vulnerable just as you score nearly came true when Foster parried a header from Rodallega. Berbatov with some sweet stuff to take the ball over onrushing Kirkland and bounce it over the player on the line. This was when the rout started and there was no looking back. Rooney got a ball into the D, where he stopped, had a look at goal and took a shot which got deflected off Melchiot and span it’s way into Kirkland’s near post. Soon, Sir Alex made 3 changes and Owen came on for Rooney, Gibson for Scholes and O’Shea on for Evans. It seemed Gibson was all charged up and took an amazing shot from long range, its only fault being that it was straight to the Keeper. United scored again on the counter, when Nani played it through to Owen and Owen chipped it across the keeper off the post and into the net. In injury time Nani curled a free kick into the bottom corner.
United’s season is finally off to a start and it looks like United are all charged up to face Arsenal at home next week.

Chelsea – Hull Review

Aug 21st 09

The ChelseaHull game was a bit more of a contest than most of us had predicted. Hull not a bad side by any means but are not exactly the side you would expect to give Chelsea problems, but they did and it needed a moment of unintentional brilliance from Didier Drogba to give Chelsea the three points.

The game mostly overrun and dominated by Chelsea was for most of one-sided until one Steven Hunt put Hull ahead after some shoddy defending. Chelsea hit back a few minutes later through a well taken free kick from Drogba and then went on to dominate the rest of the game, create a lot of chances but not take them in the end. This almost cost Carlo Ancelotti a victory in his first game in the Premiership. During injury time Drogba played a neat one-two and looped the ball over Myhill, the Hull keeper with what seemed like a cross. All that apart the final score read Chelsea 2-1 Hull and one would assume as long as Chelsea take their chances they are going to be very difficult to beat.
